‘Classic’s Not Dead’ is a youth brand initiative designed for 4MB’S classical music station. The branding culminates pop culture references with socially driven satire and contextualises the importance of classical music’s influence on the current music scene.

The campaign abolishes preconceived notions that classical music is only for an older audience by bridging the gap with puns and a relatable imagery. Not only does ‘Classic’s Not Dead’ create a youth-relatable image; it also urges younger generations to get back to the basics by pointing out the banality of some of the more mundane contemporary musicians. The project references a variety of musical genres such as hip-hop (The Beastie Boys) pop (Lady Gaga) and rock (KISS) to appeal to a broader audience.

Bold colours, graphic elements that visually represent classical music and easily identifiable visual signifiers of musical icons capture attention and are used throughout the branding on a multi platform level.

Wolf & Cub are a psychedelic rock four piece hailing from Adelaide, Australia. The four piece has become well known for their seventies rock revival through Triple J and has received positive press coverage in the UK.

Wolf & Cub’s name is derived from a Japanese comic called “Lone Wolf and Cub” and serves as the inspiration behind the poster’s illustration of a motherly wolf figure with a mounted cub head. The muted colour palette and ‘screen printed’ effect reflects the retro 70’s vibe of Wolf & Cub’s music.

Lambda Lambda Lambda (otherwise known as the Revenge of the Nerds Frat house) a weekly student club night held on Thursday’s at Alhambra Lounge in Fortitude Valley. The weekly party features live bands for the fist half of the night and DJ’s who play party tunes from every genre (including some guilty pleasures thrown in for good measure) and is notorious for serving cheap drinks in red frat house cups.

Fans group requested a large format poster to extend the club’s branding and to be placed behind live bands and the DJ booth. A red etch-a-sketch cup was hand drawn, and then digitalised featuring a typographical spillage of the club’s shorthand name.

Stature::Statue are a Brisbane post-punk band cemented in the local music scene, having played over fifty shows alongside the likes of Yeasayer, The Vines, The Mint Chicks, The Scare and Die, Die, Die.

The Stature::Statue “Hear No Evil” poster was based on the three wise monkeys mythology of ‘See No Evil, Speak No Evil and Hear No Evil’. The band requested that images of skulls be used in the poster. Skulls mimicking the three wise monkeys were hand drawn and then digitally altered.

The colours and lines used in the artwork denote veins and blood ties between the members of the various Brisbane band at the event, many of which are in more than one of the bands performing on the evening.

Cobra Kai Club Night is a weekly event aimed at indie music lovers aged eighteen to thirty. Branding for the event, plus weekly posters and visual multimedia design was required. Cobra Kai delivers local and international acts each week, in a unique space that culminates pop culture and music on Cobra Kai nights. Patrons are able to enter the space and participate in a number of “activities” – watching a live band, DJ sets, visual multimedia displays, play modern and retro arcade style games and also enjoy the company of their own friends.

Branding for the event was centered around combining minimalism and traditional design elements with relevant, exciting contemporary trends.
